What working drawings do that a floor plan cannot

A plan tells you the rooms. The working set tells the site how those rooms are built — and that is where most of the money is decided.

Homeowners often receive a handsome floor plan and a front view, and are told the design is complete. On site, the contractor still has to guess the beam depth, the toilet sunken, the window sill and where the geyser point sits. Every guess becomes a variation, and variations become the bill you did not expect.

A working drawing set is the translation from an approved idea into instructions. Dimensioned plans, sections, door and window details, electrical, plumbing and drainage layouts, staircase details, and the toilet and kitchen drawings that actually get used by the mason. Architectural plans tell you what to build. Working drawings tell your contractor how to build it.

At Jindal Design Company this set is prepared by people who also understand construction, because the studio sits inside Jindal Construction Company. If a detail cannot be built cleanly, it is redrawn before it reaches the site, not discovered halfway through the slab.

If you already have a plan from elsewhere and the site team is asking questions every morning, a drawing review is often the fastest way to stop the confusion. Bring the sheets to the first consultation.
